Success through Art (StART) Schools - Deadline June 3, 2010
Program Overview
StART grants support in-school arts learning for youth, both formal training in the arts and arts infused into other disciplines or subject areas. CCA’s intent is to help establish a core of model schools and districts that will define, plan and implement arts education programs that are specifically aligned with their school or district learning goals. These model programs will become a network that can share promising practices and support one another through CCA assistance.
CCA offers applications for StART Planning Grants and Implementation Grants on a rotating basis. For the 2010-2011 year, ONLY ARTS EDUCATION PLANNING GRANT applications will be accepted. Proposed activities can begin no sooner than August 1, 2010.
Arts Education Planning--One-Year Grant (August 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011)
These “getting started” grants support planning efforts by a school or district to make standards-based arts instruction and/or integration of the arts into other subject areas an integral part of the basic curriculum for students. Planning activities must:
- Further a specific school (or district) arts education goal. The goal may be related to the support of one or more arts disciplines including visual arts, music, theatre, dance, media arts or creative writing, and/or the integration of one or more arts disciplines into other core curricula or subject areas. The goal may be to either broaden, deepen, or diversify current offerings or create new opportunities for all students.
- Include the establishment of and participation by a broad-based Arts Steering Committee that brings together the people and organizations that have a stake in reaching the goal. This will likely include school and district administration, parents, arts specialists and classroom teachers, artists and community arts organizations, and, if applicable, higher education.
- Provide access to professional development opportunities for school arts specialists, classroom teachers, and administrators.
- Result in the development of a five-year strategic arts education plan for the school. This plan must include:
- Alignment with the Colorado Content Standards adopted by the state board of education in December, 2009.
- Alignment with your school or district Strategic Plan (e.g. School Improvement Plan).
- Ongoing educator professional development
- A strategy to measure student academic growth and/or social and behavioral improvement when your plan is implemented.
- Strategies for sustainability.
